Today I went to the grand opening of the new building for the Midlands Art Centre. I have to say hats off to the architects that changed the face of this dated poorly managed building.

It is now one of the most well thought-out spaces I’ve seen to date, the architects had little to work with and a fairly low budget of £14 Million compared to the £140 Million require to build the public in west brom, yet they managed to pull off a work of genius in terms of public space design and quality of finishes.

The building was packed with guests as the open day had a variety of free workshops and taster classes available. All the space in the building were open for the public to view at their leisure, this was fascinating as we got to see parts of the mac that have been hidden from public eyes since the late 60’s.

On the whole this open day was an amazing success and sets a bench mark for anything similar within the west midlands.
